Who are We?

Photographers, Engineers,  Creatives

We are engineers, creatives and photographers just like you, Not professional photographers in our case, just amateurs. We love to take pictures, we love to create and play with images. We like this artist feeling as we explore and learn to improve our skills.

We came together and set out to create the camera we had been dreaming of for a long time. A camera to go beyond our mobile photographers debuts. A camera to become better photographers. A well designed tool to see the world. But a camera that none of the existing manufacturers seemed willing to make.

This is where our journey started.

Our story

Pixii, the company, was founded in 2015. David gathered our initial team to start developing the camera.

Soon we realized that there was little this industry was willing to share: sensors, shutters, optical assemblies, everything was very proprietary and part makers were staying deaf to our RFQs. As outsiders, we had to build from scratch. Months were passing, hardware development was proving painfully slow, especially coming from the software world.

At least the software side was going faster and with it the smartphone link. Putting more smartphone in the camera was starting to be a winning strategy. Electronic components were

We decided to take a harder stance and learn the fabrication processtools in-house. And gradually, it became a bit faster to progress. And on we went for another 2 years, building new prototypes, better and faster, the camera slowly taking shape on our desk.

At some point, we got in touch with Fabrice Barbier, one of the fathers of the GoPro. Fabrice was looking for new exciting projects. He came to visit us, was impressed by what he saw and then decided to help us and invest in the company.

We continued together With alll of his experience and even more hard work, we finally brought the product to market in July 2020.

Pixii has been a hot topic of conversation within the photography world, with reviews and features in a variety of publications feeding the conversation.

A new, avant-garde camera, Pixii has also received praise for its design, like a Red Dot Design Award. Pixii has been named one of the 10 most popular cameras of 2020 by DPReview.

Since then we have been shipping cameras all around the world.

David BARTH

Founder & CEO

David is a software engineer and entrepreneur. He has worked in startups for most of his career up to senior leadership roles in software development and sales at Mandriva or LaCie and most recently with the founder of Ubuntu, Mark Shuttleworth at Canonical.

David holds an MSc in Computer Science and a BSc in Economics.

Fabrice BARBIER

Advisor, Investor

An industry expert, M. Barbier led the development of the GoPro camera. As SVP Consumer Devices from 2011 to 2017, he turned sales from a thousand to millions of units per year. Prior to GoPro, M. Barbier held senior management positions in Asia at Motorola and Flextronics.

M. Barbier holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering.

Melric ARTUS

Product Engineer

A young talented professional, Melric leads product engineering and oversees production. He constantly invents new solutions to improve the camera. He is able to bend light in very interesting directions.

Melric also holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering.

Isabelle COLAS

Graphical Designer

Isabelle is our resident designer.
She brings her diverse experience working with clients in the luxury and watchmaking industry. She also developed multi-year cultural and historical projects with regional administrations.

She brings beauty and her touch of French elegance to Pixii.
